Jordan’s National Cybersecurity Centre has reported a significant achievement in the Kingdom’s cybersecurity development, advancing from 71st in 2000 to 27th in 2024 in international rankings.

In a statement to The Jordan Times, Bassam Maharmeh, head of the National Cybersecurity Centre, highlighted Jordan’s significant leap in international cybersecurity status during a session at the Jordan Economic Forum.

He attributed this achievement to concerted efforts aimed at boosting data protection and enhancing trust between businesses and consumers, a pivotal move as the private sector increasingly relies on digital operations.

“This advancement reflects our commitment to protecting critical infrastructure and fostering a secure environment for investment and digital growth,” Maharmeh said.

Experts commended the Kingdom’s cybersecurity progress, stressing its potential to yield long-term economic and strategic advantages.

Speaking to The Jordan Times, Bayan Khaled, a computer engineer and AI developer, stressed that advanced cybersecurity enhances investor confidence, as Jordan’s proactive stance sends a strong message to international markets regarding its reliability as a business partner.

“As the country continues to secure its infrastructure, it is essentially making a statement to international markets that Jordan is a reliable and forward-thinking business partner,” she added.

Telecommunications specialist Razan Hourani highlighted the critical role of cybersecurity in the telecommunications sector.

“With Jordan’s strengthened cyber defences, telecom providers can better secure user data, manage traffic, and mitigate vulnerabilities across their networks,” she said.

Hourani added that these advancements are particularly valuable in protecting telecom networks, which are prime targets for cyberattacks due to the high volume of data they handle.
